Five Effective Remedies to Make A Floor Non-Slip

Posted on by Michael

If you have ever fallen on a slippery floor, you will understand why it is dangerous. Usually, there are children and elderly people at home, and a slippery floor might be hazardous to them. A toilet is not a place to fall face front, mouth to the floor for anybody. Luckily for you, there are many ways to troubleshoot your slippery floor. Below are five effective ways to make your floor non-slip.

Cover the Floor with Rugs

Using a rug is a simple solution. If your floor is slippery, cover it with rugs. Rugs are anything but slick, and they look nice aesthetically. Therefore this is a two-in-one solution to remedy your slippery falls. There are different types of rugs, like wool rugs, cotton rugs, jute rugs, bamboo rugs, e.t.c. with a rug covering your floors, you won’t have to fear anybody slipping again. Use a non-slip rug pad or silicone caulk, or place heavy furniture on the rug to prevent it from slipping on the tile.

Use Anti-Slip Paint or Spray

You can make your floor non-slip by using anti-slip paint. This type of paint typically lasts six months to three years. When it functions, you can walk and run your tiles without fear of slipping. A great option is  polyurethane floor paints. It provides impact resistance for floors, making it a great choice to remedy slippery floors.

Use Anti-Slip Tread or Sticker

It is not only rugs that make your floor non-slip. There are anti-slip treads or stickers for specific spots prone to slipping. The treads only cover a small portion of your floors, making them more impact-resistant. You can put them in front of your bathroom or any other door. You can also select places that are incredibly slippery and likely cause a fall. Anti-slip treads differ from rugs because you can select a specific place to put them. On the other hand, a rug covers the whole floor.

Install Non-Slip Tiles

Many homeowners are now choosing to install non-slip tiles into their homes. Non-slip tiles have a coating that reduces the risk of falling. Homeowners especially install them in places with a high risk of wet floors, like the toilet, kitchen, laundry, and swimming pool area. However, this is only advisable if you are doing a complete renovation or installing new floors for a new house.

Keep the Floor Dry

A primary reason why floors are slippery is that they are wet. The wetness can result from water, oil, or any other liquid that can make a person slip on the floor. Therefore this has nothing to do with the type of flooring you have. All you have to do is always keep your floor dry. Any flooring that is not slippery can become so after becoming wet. Therefore as basic and straightforward as it is, try to keep your floor dry to keep anyone from slipping on the floor.

A floor is an essential part of your home. It requires an excellent aesthetic appeal and practicality. While beautiful, it shouldn’t throw you on the floor at every step. If your floor is slippery, the first step is to check if it is wet. If so, clean and dry thoroughly, then maintain as such from then on.

However, if the type of tile or flooring is the cause, then add coating materials like polyurethane floor paint to give your floor appropriate impact resistance. Other methods include using a rug, anti-slip tread, installing non-slip tiles, and more.
