The Best Flooring Alternatives For Your Kitchen

Posted on by Michael

Modern Kitchens are the central hub of the house. They are the rallying point of different activities, from cooking to dining and occasional family gatherings.

To select the perfect flooring for your kitchen, you need to consider the following;

  • How much mess does your family make? If your family makes a lot of mess in terms of spills, dirt, and moisture. You need a rugged material that can withstand a lot of wear and tear.
  • The traffic; Is your kitchen a high-traffic area? Not all floorings are made to handle constant plods of feet.
  • Your capacity for maintenance; Some kitchen flooring requires a lot of care than others.
  • Your style; Your kitchen flooring should complement the beauty of your home and not otherwise.
  • Your budget;  Budgeting allows you to decide how much money you will spend on kitchen flooring. Some flooring materials are premium priced, while some are not, depending on your budget.

Kitchen Flooring Options

Once you are clear on the above listed, you can decide on the material and the flooring style you want. Hardwood, ceramic tile, and vinyl can be styled into herringbone parquetry flooring and gives your kitchen a stunning look.

 These are the best flooring options for your kitchen;

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is the most popular kitchen flooring because of its durability, natural feel, and warmth. Hardwood floorings are not waterproof, but with a correct finish, like polyurethane and modern sealants, they can serve longer in water-prone areas like the kitchen.

 After using a hardwood floor for a long time, you can apply a new finish to the surface and revamp its look. However, hardwood is not waterproof, and the surface can be slippery, which could be fatal in places like the kitchen.

Tile

Tile flooring has been a popular option for kitchen flooring. Tile floorings are made out of porcelain, stone, and ceramic and have varying sizes, shapes and styles, which gives room for customization. It is one of the options for kitchens with high traffic.

Tiles sourced from suppliers like Standard Tile will be waterproof, highly resistant to damage, and easy to maintain. This does not mean that they require no maintenance, however; you’ll have to reseal the grout now and then so as to address any stains or cracks, but with a little TLC, they’ll have just the longevity you need!

Vinyl

Vinyl is a budget-friendly, resilient and easy solution to kitchen flooring. Vinyl is made from plank or stones and can be customized to look like tiles.

Vinyl is completely waterproof, stain resistant, and gives a springy feel underfoot. It is easy to maintain and can be installed without the aid of a professional.

Vinyl herringbone parquet flooring is stunning, rugged, and easy to maintain, perfect in moisture-prone areas like the kitchen and bathroom.

Vinyl floorings are not as rugged as tiles and are prone to scratches and dents from the weight of heavy materials.

Laminate

Laminates are a cheaper option than hardwood. They mimic the color of hardwood, like vinyl, but they are not all waterproof. They are easy to maintain and good options for self-Installation.

Laminates are not as durable as another flooring, and unlike hardwood, the surface can not be refinished or sanded when damaged.

Concrete

Concrete flooring may not sound ideal for kitchen use, but that’s the only disadvantage. Concrete floorings are durable and can be styled to resemble wood, stone, and tile.

You can seal it to become waterproof, which is much cheaper than other flooring portions in the market.

Other Options are

  • Cork Flooring
  • Linoleums
