How Does A True Leader Handle Breakdowns?

Posted on by Michael

Breakdowns naturally happen in your professional and personal life. This includes disruptions, misfortune, disaster, chaos, unexpected challenges, problems and a lot more. When referring strictly to business, German Trujillo Manrique highlights that if the goal is large, it is completely normal to be faced with larger breakdowns. Leaders need to handle breakdowns in an appropriate way, based on desired outcome and enterprise culture. The entire company will be affected based on the decisions that are made during breakdowns.

When you regularly move away from the big problems, there is a possibility that leadership is simply not for you. A huge part of the job of a leader is to correct the major disruptions and handle them properly. In the event that there was no problem in the world, the leader would, most likely, not be needed. However, businesses always grow and there is a natural desire to do something that nobody did till now. As soon as you are on a brand new path, challenges will appear. There is a huge possibility that the number of people that were faced with a similar problem in the past is highly limited.

The new challenges will often seem to be insurmountable. Based on disruption complexity, it can be as complicated as waiting one year until you are aware of how to tie your shoelaces alone. Management and staff often need to use the resources that are available and their problem-solving skills in order to effectively overcome challenges. This often leads to a situation that cannot actually be overcome. This is where the leader stands in and offers a great new breath of fresh air.

If the leader is very easily annoyed and flustered with problems, unfortunately, there is a pretty good possibility that larger initiatives are avoided. Such initiatives are naturally filled with obstacles but they can lead to new industry opportunities and growth of revenue. When the ability of properly dealing with obstacles is too low, companies end up derailed. If constant derailment happens, money is lost.

If you look at things in a shallow way, leadership means being able to control yourself when faced with utter chaos. While it is true that some control can help, you rarely manage to get that during a crisis. What is really important is to be prepared. The really good leaders out there have plans for when things go wrong. They handle breakdowns much better than others simply because they expected something bad to happen. Leaders always think differently than other people as they are faced with problems. They are active-minded and try to find solutions, which cannot be said about others.

In many cases people do not actually deal with what is happening. As an example, when the team members do not want to collaborate, the leader can end up blaming himself. This is a rather defensive behavior that can make the problem even worse. The best leaders always react in a calm and analytical way so that solutions are found instead of blindly focusing on negatives.
